Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) The CDC's National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program provides a foundation for supporting effective screening and early detection of breast and cervical cancers at the state and community levels. They provide support and guidance to all 50 states, 4 U.S. territories, the District of Columbia, and 13 American Indian/Alaska Native organizations. To date, the CDC has performed over 5 million screens done through the NBCCEDP, almost 50 percent have been provided to minority women. Through these screenings, as of September 2004, 18,839 breast cancers, 66,295 highly treatable precancerous cervical lesions, and 1,262 cases of invasive cervical cancer have been diagnosed.
